Job Title: Fresh Produce Trader

Our client is an established overseas producer and marketer of fresh produce to the international market. They have a thriving office in the UK and have experienced significant growth over the past 2 years.
Following this, they're seeking an experienced and driven Fresh Produce Trader and procurement specialist to join their friendly and driven team.
What will I be doing?
- As a Fresh Produce Trader, you will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and facilitating the trade of fresh citrus, strawberries, grapes, sweet potatoes, spring onions, peas, beans and other produce to both the UK and international markets.
- Your primary objective will be to grow both the customer base and suppliers and to establish and maintain strong relationships with growers, suppliers, and customers while ensuring the timely and efficient delivery of high-quality produce. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the fresh produce market, excellent negotiation skills, and a passion for delivering exceptional customer service.
My responsibilities:
- Sourcing and Procurement: Identify and source fresh produce products from local and international markets. Develop and maintain relationships with growers, and suppliers to ensure a consistent supply of high-quality produce.
- Market Analysis: Stay informed about market trends, pricing fluctuations, and supply and demand dynamics. Analyse market conditions to identify potential opportunities and risks.
- Negotiation: Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers and customers. Ensure competitive pricing while maximizing profitability for the company.
- Sales and Marketing: Promote fresh produce products to existing and with a big emphasis on new customers in both the wholesale markets, processors and major multiples. Develop and implement marketing strategies to increase sales and expand the customer base.
- Logistics Management: Coordinate the logistics of transporting fresh produce from suppliers to customers. Ensure timely delivery and manage any issues or delays that may arise.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure that all fresh produce meets quality standards and regulatory requirements. Implement quality control procedures to maintain product freshness and integrity.
- Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with customers. Understand their needs and preferences to provide personalized service and foster long-term loyalty.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks related to supply chain disruptions, market fluctuations, and other factors that may impact business operations.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of transactions, contracts, and communications. Prepare regular reports on sales performance, market trends, and other relevant metrics.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Fresh Produce Trader or similar role in the agricultural industry.
- Deep understanding of the fresh produce market, including pricing, quality standards, and supply chain dynamics.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to drive favourable outcomes for the company.
- Willingness to travel as needed for supplier visits, trade shows, and customer meetings.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and certifications related to food safety and quality assurance.
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding financial sales targets and objectives.
- Have experience of producing a high volume of sales per season and quarter.
