Development Agronomist and Trials Officer

South West England

Velcourt

Agronomy and Trials.

Been looking for a way to make the move into agronomy, but just haven't had the opportunity?

Ready to commit to a structured development plan which results in you being a fully qualified, independent agronomist?

Tell me more!

To begin with, you'd join Velcourt in a dual role.

The first part of the role would see you as a trainee agronomist. You'd spend your time shadowing one of Valcourt's' established agronomists, crop walking and learning the skills of an independent agronomist.

You'll also be getting formal qualifications, such as FACTS and BASIS, if you don't have these already.

The other half of your time would be spent supporting in Velcourt trials. This would see you being out on farm covering all aspects of trials from planting through to harvest.

By doing this dual role, you'll be able to make the transition into agronomy without the unrealistic commercial development targets.

In year one, you're likely to see the year split as 60% trials, 40% agronomy.

Years two and three would see you moving more into agronomy and less on trials, but the speed which this happens depends on you.

Once you're fully qualified and working fully as an independent agronomist, you'll spend your working week supporting combinable and maize farms providing technical advice to Velcourt clients.

What do I need?

You'll come with a strong trials background, so whilst you'll be learning all things agronomy, you can hit the ground running with trials. From your prior experience, you'll have your spray certificates and several years experience.

You might have FACTS and/or BASIS already, but it's not essential. Velcourt are happy to put you through these.

To make the most of this role, you'll be driven and passionate about building a career in agronomy. Technical expertise, business development and relationship building are all things you want to do.
