The Challenge
After approx. 10 years in the role the BASIS CEO resigned to pursue other career options in early 2023. We were engaged to carry out a full blown Executive Search across the Agriculture, Horticulture and Fresh Produce sectors for a suitable replacement CEO. The organisation wanted to take the opportunity to take on someone with a more commercial background than the previous CEO with a brief to dramatically increase the number of “members” and “customers” as well as to try and align the organisation closer to retailers
Our Approach
The client wanted the best person in the sector, ideally with a “member organisation” background but also ideally with a senior leadership background in a Fresh Produce supplier to the UK retailers. As this was a reasonably specific brief and so important that we did a thorough and comprehensive search, we carried out a full Executive Search campaign. This involved co-branded advertising on all the relevant industry websites and job boards plus extensive social media coverage (LinkedIn, etc) as well as a headhunt within the Agriculture/Food organisations and across the Fresh Produce sector
We interviewed a range of very interesting candidates who had applied to our advert or responded to our calls and produced a short list of six excellent candidates for presentation to the client. Following the presentation the client met all six candidates in our office in Stamford.
They selected three candidates for a second interview also in our office in Stamford and then two candidates went through to a final stage meeting/presentation and interview at the BASIS office in Derbyshire. From that process, the successful candidate was appointed and he started in July 2023.
