International Women's Day 2025

3 days ago by Natalie Smith

Imagine a gender-equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge gender equality. Collectively for #IWD2025 we can all #AccelerateAction.

2025’s International Women’s Day theme is Accelerate Action. But what does that mean?

‘At the current rate of progress, it will take until 2158 which is roughly five generations from now, to reach full gender parity, according to data from the World Economic Forum.

Accelerate Action calls for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the barriers and biases women face in both personal and professional spaces.’

As individuals, we can all take steps in our daily lives to positively impact gender biases.

We can call out stereotypes, challenge discrimination, question bias, celebrate women's success, and so much more. Additionally, sharing our knowledge and encouragement with others is key;

  • Recruiting, retaining and developing diverse talent

  • Supporting women and girls into leadership, decision-making, business and STEM

  • Designing and building infrastructure meeting the needs of women and girls

  • Helping women and girls make informed decisions about their health

  • Elevating women and girl's participation and achievement in sport

At MorePeople, we work closely with businesses across the food and agriculture industries to support their hiring strategies and help them attract, retain, and promote diverse talent. Yet, every now and then we still experience bias in conversations and as part of the briefs we’re given. Unconscious bias continues to hinder progress. As recruiters, we are committed to challenging outdated perceptions and ensuring that hiring decisions are based on skills, experience, and potential—not gender. By working closely with clients to implement inclusive hiring practices, we can help create a fairer and more balanced industry.

Workplace policies must evolve to support a diverse workforce. Offering flexible working arrangements, addressing gender pay gaps, and fostering inclusive company cultures are all crucial steps in making the industry more accessible and attractive to women.

Meat Business Women are doing a fantastic job of accelerating action, and have just announced the launch of The Food Business Charter, setting out the global ambition to increase female representation in the food industry to 40% by 2035!

This International Women’s Day, we encourage everyone in the food, fresh produce, horticulture, and agriculture industries to reflect on how they can accelerate action in their own businesses. Whether it’s reviewing hiring policies, investing in leadership development, or simply opening up conversations about gender equality, every action—big or small—counts.
